Labour party plan to tear up the coalition school reforms receives guarded response by teachers leaders

A wealth of proposals have been published by the former education secretary David Blunkett this morning. In the proposals Mt Blunkett has 40 specific recommendations with one including the creation of 80 independent directors of school standards. The recommendations are to raise standards across the UK as a whole and that the entire system is not controlled out of one Whitehall department.

The proposals have received a varying response with Tristram Hunt in full support of the plans and proposals. Mary Bousted, general secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers also supported the proposed reforms and stated that Michael Gove had “weakened democratic accountability”.
