Elite Independent Schools to launch their own “Teach First”

The Teach First scheme has been established for over a decade now and during this time has attracted the brightest young graduates across the country into the teaching profession. With a short on the job training programme graduates have been placed into teaching roles in the countries most disadvantaged and challenging schools.

Now an elite group of private schools wants to set up it’s own version to attract the best students from Oxbridge and Russell Group Universities into the teaching profession. Its a plan the HMC (The Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference) group have proposed where the top graduates will be trained in the most reputable and historical institutions across the country. They will have the full training costs paid for by the school whist also earna wage while they work towards their PGCE and QTS.

Some commentators have said this is merely a way of the elite schools trying to steal the best students who may have gone into Teach First and worked in the state sector.
